Game Ideas: Halloween Themed Charades
Charades is a classic party game that has been around since the early 19th century. It is a guessing game where players act out words/phrases without speaking, while the rest of their team attempts to guess what they are trying to convey.
Charades requires no equipment other than some cards or paper slips containing the words/phrases that players have to act out. It is easy to set up and can be played anywhere, making it accessible to all ages and groups.
How to play?
- Form Teams: Divide players into at least two teams.
- Select Categories: Decide on the words or phrases that will be acted out. In a Halloween Party you can use spooky words related to the event.
- Set a Time Limit: Players take turns acting out the word or phrase they draw, and the goal is to get their team to guess the answer within a set time limit (usually 1–2 minutes). If the team guesses correctly, they score a point.
- Acting Rules: The person doing the charades is not allowed to speak, or make any sounds at all. Hand signals are allowed to indicate the number of words contained by the phrase, or to convey to the team which part of the phrase is being acted.
- Finishing the Game: The game continues for a pre-determined set of rounds, where the team with the most points wins the game
Individual variant
In this variant there are no teams, everyone is playing against everyone else.
- One person starts the game, draws a card, and mimes the phrase from it in 1 or 2 minutes.
- All other players attempt to guess the word correctly, and write them down.
- After everyone is finished, the person whose turn was on, reveals the solution.
- Everyone who guesses correctly earns one point. The mime earns points equal to the total number of correct answers.
- Play 2-3 turns until everyone has a turn.
- The person with the highest score wins.
